Mastodon "Crack the Skye"
With this album, Mastodon has gottne a little less metal and a little more classic rock. The vocals are pretty much all singing now, but they still keep it pretty heavy. The drummer also contributes vocals on some songs now as well. No songs really stand out above the rest on this album, but the album as a whole is amazing. Mastodon has really come through, completing their 4 elements concept...

Samael "Above"
Sounds like: Satyricon, Moonspell Samael is an Industrial Black Metal band from Switzerland which formed in 1987. Above is Samael’s newest album & their 9th to date. Simply put, this album is badass. Above is one of the best albums I have ever reviewed for KAMP. The album combines the brutality of Black Metal with the harshness of Industrial Metal to create something simply awesome....

Vanna "A New Hope"
Sounds Like: Lighter Devil Wear Prads, Before Their Eyes, less progressive Chiodos, Gwen Stacy, From Autumn to Ashes, In Fear and Faith, Hopesfall, less crappy A Day to Remember, A Skylit Drive This is a solid release from a relatively low-key band. They aren’t particularly unique (notice the large number of similar bands), but they do their genre well. They mix hardcore rhythms, metalcore...

Believer "Gabriel"
Sounds like: Faith No More Believer is a band from Pennsylvania. They started out as pretty much a straight up thrash band and released their first alabum in 1989. Believer produced two more albums which took a heavier and more progressive turn until the band brok up in 1994. 14  years later in 2008, the band reformed and now have released their 4th studio album entitled Gabriel. Gabriel is a...

God Forbid "Earthsblood"
Sounds like: Unearth, Shadows Fall God Forbid is a thrash metal/metalcore band from Jew Jersey that formed in 1998. Earthsblood is God Forbid’s 5th studio album. I would say this album by God Forbid incorporates more elements of thrash than it does metalcore. This album surprisingly has a good variety of songs, there really are not that many that sound too much alike. I would say this is a...

Scale The Summit's "Carving Desert Canyons"
Sounds Like: In Flames, but BETTER. Scale The Summit is an amazing band from Houston that I actually discovered in high school while living in Texas & I was beyond excited to get their new CD in. I totally recommend this to ANYONE. These guys are so talented, especially in the guitar department- one of the two guitarists plays an 8 string! It’s all instrumental, but not too heavy, so...

Absu's "Absu"
Sounds like: Melechesh, Desaster Absu is a Black/Thrash metal band from Plano, Texas that was fromed around 1990. The album “Absu” is Absu’s sixth studio album and definitely fits the bill of a Black/Thrash album. Personally, I would say that this album leans more towards Black Metal than to Thrash though botha re mixed. I would say this album is pretty well rounded as far as...

LaZarus A.D. "The Onslaught"
Sounds like: Exodus This Trash/Groove Metal band from some crappy place in Wisconsin. The band was formed in 2005 and The Onslaught is their debut album (I think). This album is definitely Trash with some groove elements. This album features soem ver ynice guitar work, good drumming, and definitely decipherable lyrics from a not too shabby vocalist. For a band still this new, this album is...

Antigama's "The Warning"
So I’m not going to lie, this is the first metal CD that I have ever listened to in its entirety. And Jesus Christ these guys have energy. They are pretty with it, as far as any band goes, and they seem to be intune with each other. The beat is consistantly awesome throughout the album; it is pure musical chaos… and I LOVE it. The whole album is like one constant track until track 9,...

Spring Break, anyone?
This Friday I will be back in good’ol Little Elm (by Dallas/Plano for those of you who do not know your abnormally small towns with astonishing pregnancy rates) and boy do I miss those tours that hit up Texas.  FOR EXAMPLE: Century Media & Heavy Hitter are hooking me up and getting me into South by So What? at the Plano Centre where I will (hopefully) be interviewing...

Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague
Cannibal Corpse affrims why they are they best selling Death Metal band of all time with their new album Evisceration Plague. They continue to redefine Death Metal even after 11 albums. This album is SICK! It has the trademark corpsegrinder sound with the skill found on Kill and the brutality of Tomb of the Mulitlated! This is deffinatley my favortie Canibal Coprse album yet! The only complaint I...

Wrath released February 24, 2009.
Liz Wilshin’s review of Lamb of God’s Wrath.  Definitely Lamb of God and though I don’t think is necessarily the best thing since indoor plumbing, it is still fantastic. They’re trying something new by going for a more melodic tone and even intermixing some singing. It doesn’t work sometimes, but it’s great to see that they’re not confined into one style as so many other...
